Mating season is always a difficult time for a dragon, especially when that dragon is the Dragon Lord, and especially especially when they're a female Dragon Lord. It's late in the season and most of the dragonesses have already laid their clutches, but Ember still can't find a suitor. Though she is more than ready, she can't lay until she finds a mate to fertilize her eggs. All of her male subjects are either already taken or too afraid of her, and taking them as sex slaves like former Dragon Lords just doesn't seem right. Maybe it's the ponies' influence. Thankfully Anon happens to be passing through the Dragon Lands, and he's more than happy to fill in.

Smolder's time at the School of Friendship, and her recent friendship with Spike, gives Twilight a chance to finally get some answers about dragons. Some answers are better received than others.
Dragons are something of an enigma to Equestria. Those who do live within the borders are largely reclusive, either building their hoards or sleeping away the decades. So far as dragons who are active in everyday life in Ponyville go, Smolder represents a 100% increase in the population.
Twilight cannot let this opportunity slip her by. Enough time has passed for it to not be a diplomatic faux pas to sit Smolder down and grill her for much needed details on her species, not only for the sake of science, but for the benefit of the young dragon in her personal care. Naturally, the topic of death comes up.
Twilight handles that about as well as you might expect.
Discussion of death is largely academic and intended to be comedic but I've tagged it teen to be safe. No actual death or scenes of violence are shown so I didn't think the death tag itself was needed. It's also tagged for comedy as that was my intent, but only you can tell me if it's actually funny or not.

Spike falls in love with another dragon who just so happens to be the same size and age as he is. Later on, he comes to find out in addition that they're also both boys.
Spike hears a rumor from his friends, Rumble and Button Mash, that the new ponies from down the street are moving in with a young, adopted dragon of their own. Her name is Silk, and what's more important, this new dragon in town seems to be a girl due to having pink scales, and an extremely feminine personality.
After playing a game of truth or dare, Spike is forced into paying her a visit. Although, before Spike is dared into doing this, he learns that Rumble had already spoken to Silk previously while he was at the Crystal Empire.
