When Nightmare Moon’s rebellion tore across Equestria, leaving a trail of blood and horror in its wake, Princess Celestia knew that merely banishing her sister wouldn’t be enough. Her army was too powerful, and too bloodthirsty, to be left behind without a leader. When she finally turned the Elements of Harmony against her, she didn’t just banish Nightmare Moon. She banished thousands.
Now they’re in a race against time, to find a way to survive in an environment so alien that every aspect of it is trying to kill them. They face suffocation, freezing, boiling, starvation, radiation, meteorite impacts, low gravity… the list goes on.
Nightmare Moon thought she should be the ruler of all Equestria. Now, in a world nopony was ever meant to survive, her abilities will be put to the ultimate test.

A series of short stories about a filly Nightmare Moon, nicknamed Moonie, and her father figure/guardian Anonymous the human.
Nightmare Moon returns and is hit once again with the Elements of Harmony rendering her a mischievous little filly. Much to Nightmare Moon’s annoyance, Anon thinks she's cute as all hell and is the only one willing to put up with her antics and evil, so Celestia tasks him with reforming the bundle of misery and mischief.
Amidst the roiling terrors of the night - one horror stands alone. The mind of a pony can scarcely fathom the true vengeance that the Princess of the Night could have visited upon the world as Nightmare Moon. Twilight will now endure that experience.
Nightmare Moon was defeated so easily... her rage merely in its infancy.
But what if she had not been confronted in time? What if she had planned her return differently?
What terrors would she have wrought upon the world of ponies, exacting her revenge for a millennium of agony and solitude?
Twilight will now experience that full fury of a vicious conquerer, at the head of a bloody march into Canterlot. The horrible crimes of war will tear into the once innocent and happy pony's life - exposing her mind and heart to the grim reality of the world.
And it will only be the beginning.
The suffering of the Night Tyrant must be repaid in kind, with a debt that has accrued over a thousand years of poignant, painful interest... and if the people and nation of Equestria cannot bear that terrible burden... it will fall upon the young unicorn Twilight to do so.

A chat with Celestia has Spike learning he's now got more in his job description than just 'Twilight's Assistant'
A couple of days have passed since Twilight Sparkle and Spike settled into Ponyville after the Nightmare Moon incident. However, Spike's noticed that she and her new friends, along with one or two others in town, have been behaving a little...oddly as well.
Not only that, but Celestia's summoned him back to Canterlot to inform him that he's now helping out her student in more ways than one...along with the rest of the Element Bearers.

A millennium has passed and the shackles of the imprisoned are removed, allowing them to return to the changed world they once roamed. Now, those who dare jail them are left at their mercy.
A thousand years ago, when the world fought for survival from the onslaught of the creatures of the night, a follower rose up and laid waste to the enemies of the night, proving herself to be an enemy of Equestria. The Queen of the Eternal Night chose this warrior to lead her armies, all at a cost. The warrior would be granted passage home.
Yet, when the sun mounted the victory of the light over the ethereal queen's head, the warrior was not found at the defense of her mistress, for the warrior spoke tell of how the queen had neither the means, nor the intentions, to pay her. The warrior raised her arms against the one she had once called leader and was struck down by the champion of the light, the sun, damning her to an imprisonment lasting a millennium of the world's time. So it has come to pass, the millennium gone, and the warrior's shackles loosen and fall to the ground, freeing the traitor warrior as her once-queen escaped her prison, and the night was intended to last.

Twilight, after moving into Ponyville, becomes curious about her new home
Nightmare Moon has been defeated, and Twilight Sparkle has chosen to continue to live in Ponyville. But such a move requires all her belongings from Canterlot to be brought over, so one day, all of her new friends help her out with them. As she gets settled in, however, she starts to become curious about the Golden Oak Library.
Specifically, she wonders if she's the first pony to live there.
A long forgotten element has been brought back, but for better or for worse?
Equestria has long been known as the land of ponies. However, the name of Equestria is misleading. For far too long, a certain element has been missing from the world. And now, that element has been brought back. But for better or for worse?
Due to site updates resulting in a more restrictive genre listing, I am listing here that on top of the three genres the story is listed under, the story also contains prominent elements of Dark, Tragedy, Sad, Drama, and Adventure.
Also, to set the record straight, this story begins after the end of Season 2, but before Season 3. Therefore, any plot elements from future episodes that may conflict with the plot of this story is effectively noncanon.

The elements have spontaneously stopped working for an unknown reason, leaving their bearers, and Princess Celestia stunned. The alicorn knows that greater threats then even nightmare moon and discord are coming soon, meaning she needs new bearers, and quickly. With little other choice, enacts a desperate plan she never thought she would actually have to use, and becomes the bearer of the next generation of the elements of harmony.
