Starlight Glimmer has as a big problem. Fortunately for her, so does her changeling friend Thorax. Best of all, maybe both their problems can be solved by one another.
Starlight has a very big problem, a very big problem in the form of the strongest heat she's ever been through. It's just her luck that such a thing would fall right when she is supposed to go out of town to help Trixie, the pony she's pretty sure she loves, with a new show in Trottingham. Fortunately for her, the new Changeling King Thorax also has a problem. Among the many new duties that have come with his royal status is the responsibility of expanding the hive, a responsibility that has manifested in the form of a belly full of unfertilized eggs ready to be laid in a host for incubation. It's fortunate for the both of them then, that their problems may be able to solve one another.

Chrysalis really wants to help Thorax become a better changeling and that means teaching him how to feed off the love of others. Selflessly she volunteers to show him how you can "steal" a changeling queen's love.

As the new ruler of the changeling hive, it is the responsibility of King Thorax to ensure his subject survive into the future. Logically, to do that he has to have more subjects. Where do they come from, friendly snuggling of course!

What does it mean to be a Changeling? To the former human Prince Phasma, that means doing what you can to survive and thrive in an utterly alien world.
In the beginning, The Great Weaver brought together the world, from the mountains to the forests. Stitching it together, the Great Tapestry connects all living and nonliving things.
The Changelings found themselves especially connected to this Tapestry. Legend says that the first Changelings fell through the world as it was woven together, only to be caught on the First Weave beneath it all.
But what happens when something else is caught in the Weave?

If you have no idea who or what is going on, please, look it up. Meet Equestira: A magical land that hosts many mythological creatures, but mostly god horses, unicorns, pegasi, and boring horses. Everything is ruled by two god horses; Princess Sun Butt and Princess Moon Cheeks. Sun Butt rules during the day, controls the sun, protects land from monsters, indulges in male anatomy shaped fruit & cake, and abducts children... at least that's what wikipedia says. Moon Cheeks rules the night, controls the moon, plays with people in the 'apple master race', haunts children as the next Freddy Krueger, and plans how to take over the world when no one is watching. There's also six horses that act as the 'mane' stars and a bunch of other background & side characters that this Fan Base loves... like this girl that... loves... rocks. I don't get it.
Princess Cadence and Prince-Captain Shining Armor have given Thorax a journal to document his days in the Crystal Empire so they can help him learn from his experiences. This can only go well.
Dear Small Pony Book,
Hello. My name is Thorax. I am a changeling formerly of the Badlands Hive, ruled by the terrible Queen Chrysalis. Nowadays, I am fortunate to call the Crystal Empire home, and their Royal Family my friends.
Since I'm rather new to living in pony society—without orders to infiltrate, of course—my new friends have been doing their very best to help me get acclimated to this strange, alien way of life. To this end, Princess Cadence has instructed me to tell you of my experiences so that we might use this as time to reflect together. However, I do find it strange. How am I to discuss my day to day interactions with a book? Especially one without a name? You can't not have a name, that would just be rude. So, I will just have to figure one out for you.
I'm not sure why Cadence is laughing at that, or why Shining Armor is groaning. This is a very serious issue.
These ponies are strange. But I don't think I'd have them any other way.
A little thing for me to fiddle with when I'm bored. Updates will likely be sporadic. Tagged as a prequel/sequel to The Face I'll Wear because it will explore some of the same themes and will show events before and after the story.
Thorax has had months. Months, of working tirelessly as the Ruler of the Changeling Hive and he is absolutely exhausted. He can barely stay awake when he comes to visit Ocellus at the School of Friendship to see how she's doing.
Ocellus, being the smart cookie that she is, comes up with a plan: She can pretend to be him, and he can go relax for a day.
Desperate, he accepts, but on the condition that he goes to class disguised as her and takes notes so she doesn't fall behind. After that, he can sneak off and finally get to sleep.
Queen Chrysalis, sick of Thorax being clingy and a bother as usual, tasks her subject with going out and feasting off love like any other changeling should. Deciding to disguise himself as a curvy mare he visits a little town on the edge of the badlands on his quest. Needless to say things don't go quite as planned as the timid changeling runs into a group of stallions at the local saloon!

The newly reformed changelings have been given a mission by their visionary and benevelont King Thorax: they must snuggle all the ponies in Equestria. Most ponies take to this with gusto. Someponies are more... difficult than others.
Now that he's been granted permission to live in the Crystal Empire, Thorax must decide how he wishes to present himself to its inhabitants.
Flat teeth or fangs? Velvety smooth coat or firm carapace? Mane or headfin?
Thorax frets over which face he wishes to show the crystal ponies his age. Fortunately, there's somepony willing to offer a word or two of comfort and support, as well as teach him a life lesson that will stick with him forever.
