Not all changelings are fit for life in a hive. But that doesn't mean they're capable of life outside it, either. Join one such changeling as he tries to find his place in Equestria, and what the difference is between survival and living.
Idol Hooves holds a special place in Equestria. He's probably the only exiled changeling to serve in the Royal Guard, or at least, that's what he expects, as exiles don't really broadcast that fact. However, it's well known that Princess Celestia loves all of her little ponies, and her guards perhaps more so, and that makes it one of the best ways for a changeling to discreetly feed.
But how does a changeling even get there, let alone get exiled in the first place? For that matter, why would it ever go to Canterlot? Set a number of years before the series proper, before Luna’s redemption, Idol details how he was exiled, the ponies he’s met, and the series of misadventures that led him to joining the Royal Guard, and should continue a good ways into the series, as something of an alternate perspective.
Soon, he’ll have to deal with a boisterous new princess to serve and a royal wedding in the works bringing a third to power. Will his old instincts bring this new life crashing down around him? What precipitates Chrysalis’s ill-fated assault on Canterlot? Is it really so wrong for a changeling to enjoy good craftsmanship to an obsessive degree?
Various side stories to go along with The Changeling of the Guard
This is a collection of various stories, short and otherwise, to go along with The Changeling of the Guard.
They aren't absolutely necessary, but the intention is to provide some background or additional material. Things like Topaz's research notes on Changelings, stories involving the other characters, and various insane things Idol has done that don't quite fit into the main plot. They might be chipper, they might be sad, but they're all canon to the main fic... or to whoever from the story is relating them.
Chapter 1 is the Nurse, mentioned briefly in Moonlighting, who brought Idol the Nymph.
A young woman is given a holocorder to document her experience of going through a Conversion Bureau.
Recruited by the Worldgovernment, a young woman is given a holocorder to document her experience of going through a Conversion Bureau, and her experiences after. This is the text transcript of her hypernet holofeed. This story takes place in Year Three of the expansion of Equestria.
When a magical portal spits out a enraged being, Twilight Sparkle and her friends discover a world being attacked by... them? Now Equestria must go to war and save humanity and its allies before it's too late.
A wondrous portal of light and colors open in Ponyville, one would think it brought good tidings.
They were wrong.
A human, pushed to the brink of madness and misery, attacks the Elements of Harmony. A war, unknown and uncomprehending, being waged for the survival of one species. A power hungry Alicorn setting her sights on new lands.
Now all of Equestria and her people find themselves teetering on the edge of war, war so uncompromising and ruthless against an enemy they all know.
Themselves.
Darkness begins to settle across the entire world, old enemies setting aside their differences for mutual survival.
Now is the time to fight... Now is the time to show the mad so called goddess that they will not bow to her... Now is the time to show Harmony as it is meant to be seen...
The Tyrant has no idea what she has unleashed... But then again... Neither do they.

Steven Miles enjoys a vacation in San Fransisco at the popular Shillton hotel on the cheap. The only catch is that he has to put up with some robotic horse 'assistant' for the duration of his stay. What could possibly go wrong? [CONTAINS FOALCON]
Warning: This story contains foalcon (technically), dubious consent/somnophilia, Human X Ponybot sexytimes and a very poorly socialized android. You have been warned~
Steven Miles works too hard. That what his boss says, at least.
So when he's finished helping set up the new San-Fran office, he's ordered to take a vacation, on his own dollar, of course. Luckily for him, the Shillton has some deal going, all he has to do is turn off the robotic assistant he's saddled with and he can stay in the best hotel in the city for cheap!
There's definitely no way he'd find her cute. And there's definitely not a chance in hell that he'd fall head over heels for an underaged horse robot, right?

Sometimes, the stress of helping bickering couples is a bit too much - and what better way for a changeling to relax than a day at the spa?
Sometimes, Spotlight - or, Psych Ologist, as known by the masses - needs some time to unwind. And, between bickering couples, Cloud Kicker's horrible aura of train-wreckery and the Cutie Mark Crusader Lemonade Fabricators, 'unwinding' may need a little more than the typical 'Two' he gets from his friends at the Spa. No, this time, he's getting a Four. Oh yeah, things just got serious.

I'm a spiteful old man. I've spent my entire life trying to fulfill my wish. The same thing every one of us wants. It's 2070. I'm the last brony alive, 82 years old. But I did it. I created the portal. And I'm jumping through. No regrets.

After traveling into the Bermuda Triangle following a vision, Magnus ends up in a place filled with fairytale creatures and a secret concerning his lineage.
After my grandfather passed away I inherited a strange staff from him. I discovered that the staff gave me strange visions of a place I had to go to. I experienced visions, day and night, and in the end I decided to follow them to see where they would take me. I did not expect to be taken away from Earth and sent to a place that defies everything I know, and I certainly did not expect to hear that not all the members of my family were human.
Warning: Contains small amounts of Anthro. Equestria Girls did not happen in this story.
My first fic posted here, told from a 1st person perspective. Rated Teen to begin with, this may change as more ideas develop, but I'll try my best to keep it Teen.
In the near future mankind was driven into a biochemical war against an unidentifiable contagion created by an asteroid that struck the planet. Without no cure or any form of escape, mankind buried themselves and awaited their extinction.
In the year 2036 an asteroid dubbed "Apophis" struck the Earth and contaminated fifty percent of its water and atmosphere with an extraterrestrial pathogen dubbed "The SOL Strain." After two years, sixty percent of all human life was gone! With the world's governments struggling to keep their countries together; all seemed lost.
That is where my story begins.
My name is Chloe Cooper and I'm the only known human to be genetically immune to the SOL Virus. During the pandemic, I volunteered myself for experimentation. In order to keep me safe, I and three other humans were locked away in a vault deep within the Appalachian mountains. There these people, who I soon considered my friends, ran many tests on me and the virus, however after months without contact from above it was time to put the project to rest.
Cryostasis pods dubbed: "Cocoons" had been built in case we failed. 16,000 years later I awoke to sirens, signaling a whole host of problems.
And now? I'm the last of my kind.

A team of multiversal explorers comprised of alternate Sweetie Belles explore fanfic worlds and beyond!
The League of Sweetie Belles was founded by a handful of Sweeties who decided they liked hanging out with each other. What started as a simple club for like-minded white unicorn mares turned into a complex organization with a lot of responsibility. One particular team of Sweetie Belle explorers have taken it upon themselves to explore the multiverse, delving into the lands of ponyfics and beyond.
(If you're not reading from the beginning and just want to look into one chapter relating to a particular story, the SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: The Sweetie Personnel Files blog is your friend. Refer to it whenever you feel you lack context. But don't read the entire thing; use it to look up names.)
(Part of the Songs of the Spheres continuity, but you don't have to read that to understand this. This fic can never never be complete due to its episodic and open nature, and it may never update again—but who knows? As with all SotS stories, there's a Discord server)
Warnings are there since certain fics will require them when they are included. You won't get sex, death, or gore everywhere. You are likely to get violence and some profanity in many chapters.
Follow Benkei as he tutors Twilight and her friends as their mentor, delves deeper into the true meaning of friendship, and displays his loyalty to his friends by fulfilling his true purpose for being sent to Equestria.
A Japanese warrior monk, known as Saito Musashibo Benkei, finds himself still alive and kicking, despite having died only days earlier. He finds himself in a strange, confusing, yet wondrous land, full of magical talking ponies who speak an equally bizzare language.
Follow Benkei as he copes with his new world, discovers new allies and friends, and comes to appreciate his new life. But Benkei was not sent to Equestria by chance to enjoy himself and live the rest of his days happily and care free. He was sent for a reason.
He was sent to help.
He was sent to enlighten others.
But most importantly, he was sent, to save Equestria.
Meanwhile, an oddly intelligent bunny by the name of Akeeta befriends Benkei, discovers the truth behind her consciousness, all while dealing with mixed feelings about a certain white bunny.
Note: Character tags will be added as they appear in the story. The mane 6, Spike, and Princess Celestia are the main cast from the show appearing in this story, but appear later on.
This will be my first shot at a historical fiction (sort've, since it's a legend crossed with MLP) , which means I actually had to do a fair bit of research on Japanese warrior monks and folklore to accomplish accurately and smoothly. That said, this is fiction, this is the MLP Universe, and Benkei himself is from a legend, so its still gonna be pretty unrealistic in that sense. I decided against using the japanese names for armor as it just serves to confuse people. However, if you prefer the japanese names, here is a helpful diagram. Also, the weapon Benkei is holding in the cover art is a naginata, in case that wasn't clear.
Also, for those wondering, no, Benkei will not be speaking Japanese for the whole story as I don't actually speak Japanese and have been relying on painstaking crosschecking with google translate to get the simple Japanese phrases that have been included to make sense when translated back to English. Don't worry, he'll be speaking English soon enough.
Lastly, this story will be updated every month . Its sortve a background project I want to continue to write to see how far I can take it while I write other things.
Side Note: Sex Tag is for references to sex, talk about sex, and some heated situations. This is a teen story, and there will be no directly written clop. Sorry!
Comments are very much welcome, even if you just want to say you hate it, so long as a valid reason is provided to enable me to grow as a writer. Thanks for reading!
Below is a simple summary of Benkei's REAL legend that happened preceeding chapter 1, and partially during the prologue.
Japanese legend tells of a man named Saito Musashibo Benkei. The origins of his birth are unknown, and the first time Benkei was seen, he was a fully grown man. After joining a monastery of monks, and then being exiled from it Benkei built a shrine next to a bridge and stood guard. He defeated 999 swordsmen before being bested, and in a display of honor, he became his adversary's retainer. Benkei fought during the Genpei wars, the giant of a man bringing death on the swift wings of his naginata, a bladed pole sword. He lived a long and exciting life, but all good things come to an end, and Benkei died defending the bridge to his master's castle. He defeated 300 samurai before finally dying of mortal wounds, but Benkei did not fall. He died standing up, at least that's how the legend goes.
TD's life in Equestria after the events of Wanderings of a Non-Brony
After the six year journey around the planet in Wanderings of a Non-Brony, The human TD Harrison Powell finds himself in Equestria for good. He sees no choice but to settle down in Ponyville, ready to live the rest of his life as best as he can.
A long forgotten element has been brought back, but for better or for worse?
Equestria has long been known as the land of ponies. However, the name of Equestria is misleading. For far too long, a certain element has been missing from the world. And now, that element has been brought back. But for better or for worse?
Due to site updates resulting in a more restrictive genre listing, I am listing here that on top of the three genres the story is listed under, the story also contains prominent elements of Dark, Tragedy, Sad, Drama, and Adventure.
Also, to set the record straight, this story begins after the end of Season 2, but before Season 3. Therefore, any plot elements from future episodes that may conflict with the plot of this story is effectively noncanon.
Anon is sent to Equestia as a young boy. He grows up with Celestia and Luna. Now watch as he tries to live in a land not so familiar to him.

*Holy Shit! Well... thank you for making this featured on the front page. I literally just put it here for shits and giggles.*
A human is off to a rough start when Fluttershy finds him eating one of her chickens, and breaks his arm. Can Derpy and the human convince Ponyville to give him a second chance?
When Fluttershy finds a human in her backyard trying to eat one of her chickens, she and a majority of the residents of Ponyville only want this dangerous creature as far away from their town as possible.
After a less than stellar first impression, Derpy Hooves and the human struggle to quell the rumors surrounding his diet, and convince the townsfolk that he's harmless.
Will the human be able to make himself meek enough to coexist? Or will he be driven out of town with torches and pitchforks?
Each chapter is told from the perspective of a different pony.
The Piano Man is free, but must now recover from his captivity and adjust to life in Equestria.
The Piano Man has spent the last month in captivity, forced to play the piano as part of The Great and Powerful Trixie's traveling show. Now he's free, and recovering under the care of the Equestrian monarchy while Trixie awaits trial for her crimes. All is not well, however. The Piano Man has a long road of recovery ahead, and all the time he must compete with overbearing carers, his own mental trauma, and even discrimination from members of Equestria's unicorn supremacist subculture.
This story is the kinda(can't stress that part enough) better-written sequel to 'The Piano Man'. Because the first story involved some rather dark scenes, I have included a helpful catch-up in the first chapter - so if you have no interest in reading a dark story, then you can ignore the first piece and skip straight ahead to this one. 'The Piano Man: Act II' is most certainly not a dark story, and neither is it sad. The sad tag is in place for scenes in which I reference the previous installment, and nothing else.
The absolutely amazing cover image was created by the even more amazing WIL_I_ZIN, (deviantART) who is just... just awesome, for helping out.
Celestia has reached the eldest age for an alicorn, and in order to continue ruling Equestria, she must once again transform herself back into a filly.
Celestia has reached the eldest age for an alicorn, and in order to continue lifting the sun for Equestria, she has no choice but to transform herself back into a filly.
She's left herself, and Luna some very detailed notes on what to do next.
