Lyra is convinced that the ancient Horn of Celestia is the key to unlocking the true history of her race. But the tower isn't what it seems, and neither is she.
Since time immemorial, the Horn of Celestia has stood above the ancient northern glaciers. It is older than the Empire, older than Equestria itself. The tower carries many ancient legends, but the most credible is this: that during the time of strife, ponies sacrificed their greatest powers to come together into a single kingdom, committed to peace and friendship forevermore.
Lyra Heartstrings is convinced there is more to this story, and after years of preparation, she has arrived at the tower with an expedition of friends and fellow experts to discover the truth for herself. One way or another, she will discover the secrets concealed in the ancient horn, even if it costs her everything.
This story was written on my Patreon as a commission for HMage, but was one of the earliest casualties of the pandemic. As a result, only part 1 of 2 was written. There are roughly eleven chapters taking us to what was meant to be the halfway point of the story. At least for now, the story will end there--not as a painful cliffhanger, but before our heroes transition to the next phase of their adventure.
There are no plans to continue beyond that at this point. But it felt like a terrible shame that other people couldn't enjoy the story thus far.

It's been a handful of years since Twilight came into her own as a Princess of Equestria, a few years spent in peace and harmony without so much as an angry spirit or clandestine invasion to take away from the tranquility of Equestrian life. Unprecedented developments in the technological and thaumaturgical sciences seem to be preparation for something, though nopony realizes what that something might be.
Nopony except the Princesses, who have not failed to see the signs of impending disaster that began with the mass kidnappings just following the Summer Sun Celebration. When all their preparations are turned upside down, can an alliance with the mysterious Precursors turn the tides of the most devastating war in Equestrian history, while there is still anything left to save? Enemies and allies appear in the most unlikely of places, and friendship with a dying elder race can be more dangerous than an invasion of Dragons and Changelings. What is a pony willing to give in defense of harmony? What are they willing to sacrifice?
This story now has a companion piece, The Sunset Campaign! This story is designed to bring Harmony Defended more into line with the three-story version of My Little Apprentice. If you read Apogee and Perihelion, you may want to read that as well!
This story was written prior to season five, and as such any events which transpire therein may or may not be treated as canonical. All events up to and including "Twilight's Kingdom" are treated as having occurred, however.

Twilight speaks to Tempest after their most recent adventure
Equestria is saved again, and, as usual, a party is thrown to celebrate. But, while singers sing and dancers dance, Twilight, the Princess of Friendship, realises that there's somepony here who has a few things to say to her, and that she has a few things to say to her too.
Warning: This story will contain spoilers for the MLP movie.
Hell has an infinite library. Twilight wants to use that library. There goes the neighborhood. Yep, right out the door, and it’s taking the couch with it.
Once upon a time, Twilight went to hell. It wasn’t that bad. It was pretty great, actually. It had a library! A big one. Like, bigger-than-the-universe big. But then Twilight went and got herself kicked out of hell, and now she’s depressed.
There’s only one logical solution: with Starlight’s reluctant help, Twilight is going to break into hell and invade its library. Oh, it’ll be tricky — trying to find one specific location in an infinite dimension tends to be a bit hard — but the infinite knowledge it’ll provide is too good to pass up. Twilight will find that library if it kills her (which, since this is hell, isn’t the worst thing ever in the grand scheme of things).
There is absolutely no way this can possibly go wrong.
When Scootaloo disrupts one of Twilight's experiments Scootaloo and Twilight find themselves in a galaxy at war.
When Scootaloo crashes into twilight during a magic experiment they get teleported to an unknown city that's burning and has weird creatures scattered in the streets. As the two separated stranded ponies roam around the city separately trying to figure out where they ended up, will they try to make it home as fast as possible or will they stay to help a species that's being systematically eradicated?

What's worse than becoming a pony? I'll tell you. Transforming into Princess Cadance during a college class and waking up in a horse-trailer. Yeah. Life's screwed up.
None of you know me. And I know why. I'm just an average 20 year-old MLP G4 brony... who is going to a college for graphic-novelists... in the year 2025.
But take my advice: life finds a way to screw with you at every turn. I know that because I had a first-hand experience with something nobody has ever experienced before.
I fell unconsious and turned into Princess Cadance. During a college class! And I woke up in a horse trailer post-transformation!
Life can be so f'ed up!
Now I'm in danger and being held hostage by a bunch of crazy people! But you all know how that ends. Right? Probably not. But do you know what? I don't know either.
This just goes to show that you should never wish to transform into a pony. Ever!

Princess Luna still feels alone, nineteen years after her return to Equestria . But when she finds a friend in an online game, everything seems better. She can be herself without worrying about what others think, and she can finally talk to another pony, even if he never knows who she really is.
Celestia is worried about her sister, especially right now. Upcoming peace talks with a powerful new nation mean that all the Princesses need to be completely ready. With her Luna so absorbed in a fantasy world, she wonders how she'll make it through the harrowing weeks to come.
Button Mash feels like a failure. He's still living at home, he still can't find work that can use his degree from the university, and he still feels alone. His friends are getting married, starting families, and thriving in their careers. On the plus side, he plays games regularly, and his best friend is a mare, even if she doesn't know his name. He hopes that his upcoming vacation to Canterlot might help his mindset.
But, unbeknownst to all of them, a sinister web within a dark plot threatens to ensnare Equestria... And Luna may be the only one able to stop it.
She may face it alone, or maybe she'll have some help from her knight in faded armor...
Follows canon up to about season 4 or so. I'm not sure when everything went off the rails, but it was originally as true as possible when initially written.
Life never really goes how we expect. It's a lesson we all learn in time, favorably or not. For Caden, waking up in Equestria is one of many twists his life has taken down an unexpected road. As he tries to unravel how he arrived there, he'll meet others whose lives have also twisted in ways they didn't expect or hope. A journey awaits that features not only new faces but many old and familiar ones from the MLP FiM universe.
Note: There is no Equestria Girls in this universe. That will probably answer a lot of questions ahead of time. :) Also this is....sometime pre S9.

After being transported to Equestria by unknown means, you have learned to adapt and make the most out of your new life after about a year. You've even managed to land a job with the Royal Guard after Shining Armor eavesdropped on one of your conversations about your home world.
Now you protect and patrol the borders of Equestria, bringing some spice in your life once more, until it all peaks when you're sent to patrol the easternmost border in Equestria, next to the Dragon Badlands. A Private Military Contractor unknowingly agrees to a job offer that takes him to Equestria
My name is James Clark, and I am a Private Military Contractor. No, not Mercenary. Yes, there is a difference, but that's beside the point.
Ok, where was I? Ah yes, I was just entering my office in Downtown Houston one afternoon to hear a job offer. When I got there, I found a beautiful, robe-wearing woman waiting for me. Now, in this day and age, most people would find that strange. I didn't for two reasons.
1) In this line of work, you run into a few crazies. If I had a dollar for every nut-job I turned away, I could buy a small European country.
2) It was Halloween. Hell, I was on my way to a party dressed in a replica suit of Veteran Ranger Armor from Fallout: New Vegas, complete with gas mask and real riot gear I borrowed from a friend on the SWAT team. I was gonna win the costume contest for sure!
I'm getting off topic, aren't I? Anyways, this weirdo offered me a job without going into much detail. No location, no objective, not even a dollar amount The only thing I got out of her was the promise that I would be saving thousands, if not millions of lives.
Every instinct told me to turn the job down, and yet I still accepted it. Maybe the idea of playing hero again had its appeal.
God, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Something new lurks within the wilds of Equestria. Something monstrous.
Angela was just a petty thief at a convention. All she wanted was to grab a few things, leave, and make a few bucks off of them. She had no idea just how complicated her situation would become because of it. And now, the ponies inhabiting the town of Hollow Shades will find themselves at odds with what many would call a living nightmare.

Homer Simpson's been to a lot of places. Outer Space, The Third Dimension, and more hallucinations then is probably healthy, but a land full of talking candy colored ponies? Yeah this could be an issue.
Ponyville is no stranger to people dropping in unannounced, but even the Elements of Harmony probably weren't ready for a four fingered yellow biped to literally fall out of the sky. His name is Homer J Simpson, and his chance arrival will forever alter the course of Equestrian History in ways beyond their imagination...or maybe not.
It's also just as likely he's going to drive somebody (er, somepony) up the wall as he struggles to adapt to a society where clothing is optional, television is nonexistent, and the closest thing to alcohol is apple cider. All the while trying to find a way home. Will he succeed? Will he get back in touch with the man he used to be before twenty nine seasons worth of content turned him into a hollow shell of his former self?
Hell if I know. Should be fun to watch though.

A novice changeling undertakes a journey back to his own world.
The newest resident of the changeling hive feels out of place. He cannot remember the last time he had wings, holes in his arms, or talking bugs for friends. What is he? Why is he here? Will he find his way home? Will he survive in a world without coffee?
For those who have forgotten what has happened so far in the story since it was taken down, here's a chapter-by-chapter summary of all events and characters up to and including chapter 10.
Trapped in Equestria and looking to leave, one Human will take it upon himself to fight the elite 4 of his local Magic High School for answers.
Transported here through mysterious means, a human finds himself trapped in Equestria, and trapped with all its inhabitants! Conscripted into the Ponyville school for the magically adept (despite being entirely inept) our displaced hero attempts to uncover his past, and how he came to be in Equestria, making enemies and new friends along the way! Join him as he stylishly smashes his way through those that would keep him down, with only a little purple mare and his human vigor to carry him to victory!
Twilight Sparkle was Celestia's chosen heir, and under her rule Equestria was destined to prosper. But then her friends passed, as mortal ponies always do, and she was left to rule alone. The years were not kind to her after that.
Twilight Sparkle has ruled Equestria for over a thousand years. From her throne atop the floating city of Concord, she enforces ruthless harmony over the handful of surviving settlements. But Twilight is afraid: Equestria's survival always hangs by a thread, as enemies more ancient than the Alicorns threaten to return and devour what she has built.
Twilight selects her star pupil, a young unicorn named Star Orchid, to travel down from the perfect city of Concord into the dangerous ruins beneath, so that she might locate these forces, and help Twilight to destroy them. Only when every threat to Equestria is finally dismantled will she be able to rest. Until then, there is much left to purify.
